WEEE Information for KCI Customers

The Ireland Waste Management (Waste Electronic and Electrical Equipment) Regulations 2005 came into force on August 13th 2005 and implement the EC WEEE Directive in Ireland. The WEEE Directive aims to minimise the disposal of WEEE as non-segregated municipal waste and increase the amount of WEEE which is collected for treatment, recovery and environmentally sound disposal.

Electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) contains materials, components and substances which can be dangerous to the environment and harmful to human health if waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) is not disposed of correctly.

Products labelled with the symbol of a crossed-out wheeled bin as shown below are electrical and electronic equipment. The crossed-out wheeled bin denotes that waste electrical and electronic equipment must not be disposed of with the remainder of un-separated waste, but should instead be treated separately.

KCI Medical meets its producer obligation under the Ireland Waste Management (Waste Electronic and Electrical Equipment) Regulations to finance the take-back and recycling of KCI Medical consumer electronic products though membership to the Government approved compliance scheme, WEEE Ireland. KCI Medical customers can also play their part towards the reuse and recycling of WEEE by ensuring the environmentally sound disposal of their new KCI Medical electronic product when it becomes waste.

Both consumers and businesses (including hospitals and medical practitioners) requiring environmentally sound disposal of a KCI Medical electronic product can make use of the arrangements which have been made with WEEE Ireland. KCI devices or parts of them may be considered potentially infectious after their use. Bio-hazardous materials disposition follows strict National rules which may impact on the recycling processes described above. If you are in doubt or if you need to know how to dispose of them, please contact your local Health Authority or prescribing physician or local Health Care Professional.
